Acs, 29 September 2023 – The first meeting of the Acs working committee on the cathode plant to be built near the town with a 1.3 billion euro investment was held on Thursday. At the meeting, the investor BAMO Technology Hungary Kft. said that it considers the body as the most important communication forum and in the spirit of transparency and constructive dialogue, it continuously responds to the questions raised by residents. More than 70 questions were received at the first meeting, mainly on technology, water and energy needs, safety and recruitment.
The working committee for the investment in the cathode materials plant in Acs has started its work. The members are the mayor of Acs, the notary, several deputies, the mayors of the neighbouring municipalities and representatives of local NGOs.
The working committee also includes BAMO Technology Hungary Kft., which is building a cathode materials plant in Ács with an investment of EUR 1.3 billion. At Thursday’s meeting in Ács, a representative of the company gave an update on the project and answered questions raised in recent weeks.
“We consider the Acs working committee as the main local communication forum, but local residents canalso send us their questionsby e-mail, post or in person – by dropping them in the mailbox on the wall of the municipality building – and we will answer all of them. In recent months, we have shown that we are doing our utmost to ensure transparency and continuous communication. All information that is publicly available at each stage of the project will be shared with the city’s management to inform residents ” – says Ferenc Fülöp, Public Relations Director of Bamo Technology Hungary Kft.
At the meeting, Ferenc Fülöp answered more than 70 questions asked by local residents or members of the working committee about the project, including questions about production technology, labour recruitment, water and energy needs, safety and security. He made it clear that the proposed 300-apartment development is built for all workers and that Hungarian workers are the primary focus. He confirmed that an environmental monitoring system will be set up, with the involvement of an independent, expert company.
The Director of Public Relations said at the meeting that an online opinion poll has been launched, through which the people of Acs and the region can express their opinions on the project and the areas where they would like to see Acs and its region developed. A mailbox is now available in the Mayor’s office for local residents to drop their letters in. The company will reply to questions with names and addresses by postal letter to the sender, and anonymous but relevant questions will be answered in the Ácsi News.
BAMO has also produced and made available to locals an information brochure in Hungarian. The company’s Hungarian language website and social media communication will be launched soon.
Archaeological work is currently under way on the site of the cathode factory, which will create 900 new jobs and be completed by 2026, and experts have found the remains of an Arpadian village. The excavation is expected to last until early November. Meanwhile, the design of the plant is underway.
