Construction of the cathode plant in Acs starts

Bamo Technology Hungary Kft. has received the necessary permits and has started the construction of the cathode material plant in Acs, the company’s representative informed the locals at the latest meeting of the Acs working committee.

Exactly one year to the day after the parties announced the construction of the cathode materials plant in Acs, the first support column was put in place on 21 June on the site of the future hall. This marked the start of construction of the 41,000 square metre facility, announced Ferenc Fülöp, Public Relations Director of Bamo Technology Hungary Kft. at the latest meeting of the work committee in Acs.

The members of the panel include the mayor of Ács, the notary, several deputies, the mayors of the neighbouring settlements, representatives of local NGOs, and BAMO Technology Hungary Kft., which is building a cathode materials plant in Ács with an investment of 1.3 billion euros. At the meeting, a representative of the company gave an update on the project and answered questions raised in recent weeks.

Ferenc Fülöp recalled that the company received the unified environmental permit on 3 May and the construction permit on 21 May, which allowed the start of the work in the Ács area. The fact that the Association of Great Lakes and Wetlands has filed a lawsuit against the Komárom-Esztergom County Government Office regarding the environmental permit for the project has no suspensive effect on the project. BAMO is cooperating with the Győr Regional Court in the process and will provide all necessary information.

The company is already active in everyday life in Acs: on 22 May, they inaugurated a playground built with a HUF 20 million grant from BAMO, and around 10 of their Chinese colleagues have been living in Acs since the beginning of May. The company has also supported the Ács Town Fairs.

The working committee also decided on the implementation of several significant public investments in the past period, including the renovation of the water utility network of the region with HUF 27 billion, which will increase the security of supply of the surrounding settlements, and the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant with a capacity twice as large as the current one. A further HUF 17 billion will be invested by Magyar Közút to improve the road network and a cycle path will be built between Bana and Ács.

The working committee was also informed that the monitoring system in Babolna has been launched: the city’s Facebook page now publishes monthly the various the results of measurements of substances and environmental factors. A further development on the monitoring system in Acs is also expected shortly.

There were also questions from Bábolna and Bana about the water supply to the construction site. In order to prevent and moderate the dust build-up, BAMO is transporting water from both municipalities, but this is causing considerable congestion on the local roads concerned. The company has promised to consult with the subcontractors carrying out the work and to be a partner in any remedial work that may be necessary.

BAMO has promised to provide information on the exact liability insurance that the company will have, and the question is expected to be decided only after the occupancy permit has been obtained.

Also in response to a local request, Ferenc Fülöp confirmed that the company supports the holding of open days during the construction period, subject to prior registration. This is expected to take place this autumn.

The company is still open to selling excavated land from the construction site, buyers will only have to pay the land protection fee of HUF 250 per cubic metre and arrange for transport
